I sit down with a...Wow. I could not disagree more.

I sit down with at most a page of notes jotted down about stuff I can start with or throw in if I get stuck, and we make shit up until we hit a good stopping point or run out of time.

I can't even fathom the idea of adventure planning anymore >_< Who has that kinda time?

That said, I realize the Make It Up As You Go method is not everyone's bag. It can be exhausting and sometimes you hit a stumbling block if your players come up with something that blows your mind (yep, it can happen EVEN IF YOU DON'T RAILROAD), but the sheer joy of having no more idea of what's going to happen than the other players do and ending up somewhere amazing you never could have led them on your own, is totally worth it.

Playing to "get to the end of my story" doesn't appeal to me anymore. These days it's all about playing to "see what happens".

Just my 2 gp. Glad you're having fun doing your thing!

Oh yeah, and we're playing Marvel Heroic on the 4th at Plus, you should come join us!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3195137247359978282.post-34324668247157580782012-07-19T07:38:58.805-05:002012-07-19T07:38:58.805-05:00That second point really resonated with me. I used to run a ton of campaigns and in one in particular I foresaw a very linear path for one of the sessions, and the players came up with a response to it that caught me completely unprepared. I spent the rest of the night improvising and made sure to have better contingencies from there on out.Chalgyrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10879608925209948366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3195137247359978282.post-31015158295895202592012-07-18T14:36:16.118-05:002012-07-18T14:36:16.118-05:00Congrats on DMing again!! I do love giving players total free will but do drop them pieces of the whole here and there. I love the excitement when they realize that everything is fitting together as a whole!!

Best of luck to you!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06094231701233567830noreply@blogger.com
